It has always been my desire that my girls be smart and successful in whatever they do, but above all things what I have really wanted was for them to love God. I can remember one paticular night when Abby was an infant, and I was praying for her at bedtime. I was holding her in my arms, about to lay her down in her crib, and the story of Hannah and Samuel just popped into my head. I can't say why I started thinking about Hannah except that maybe God knew I was holding on a little too tight to my baby girl, and I needed to be reminded of who she really belonged to. My heart ached thinking about how hard it must have been for Hannah to fulfill her promise to God and send Samuel away. She did it because she made a promise to God. It was that night many years ago, that I prayed over Abby and "gave" her to the Lord. I have prayed the same prayer over each of my girls many times since that night, and God is so faithful!
Abby and Macey both got baptized on Sunday, October 10. It was such a wonderful day! I can't put into words how wonderful it feels to know my babies have a desire to serve God. What more could a parent ask for really? Bret and I both had tears in our eyes that day! It all came about with Abby. She is terribly afraid of water, especially going under the water. In fact, I think she would have liked to have been baptized much earlier except that she was afraid. A few weeks ago, after she had been in bed, she woke up, came to me and said "Momma, I think God just told me that I need to get baptized." Just hearing that made me want to cry! She has always been sensitive to the voice of God. I called our pastor and he came over the next day to talk to the girls (Macey has been asking to be baptized ever since she was saved). My desire and Pastor Bucks as well is to make sure this was the girls decision, and they are making it for the right reasons. The girls and I have been reading the Scriptures about baptism and the story of Jesus being baptized for a while. I knew they understood, but I was still a little worried about Abby. How many parents have to say things like "You know you can't fight Pastor Buck when he is baptizing you right?" or "You can't scream when he tries to lean you back into the water." The day Pastor Buck came over, she came to me and in the softest voice said "Momma, I know God told me I need to be obedient and get baptized, but do you think Pastor Buck will let me wear my goggles?" Of course I laughed, and Buck said he couldn't wait to show that video to the church congregation! So my sweet little girls were baptized in front of friends and family, in our own swimming pool, one wearing goggles! What a wonderful thing to witness!
Here are a few pictures of the girls. My camera was freezing up for some reason so I was a little disappointed with them! I am also attaching the video for those of you family members who couldn't be here.
