Surprises

Bret came home from work last week with two things.

This note,

and this car.

To say I was surprised is an understatement!  We had just started talking about a new car since mine has over a hundred thousand miles one it, but I was dragging my feet.  For one, I didn't want a car payment.  Two, I kept thinking about my three crazy kids and what they could do to a beautiful new car!  My hubby, I guess, decided I needed one despite the kids.  I have to admit that I am very glad he did.  Cars have never been my thing, but I love this car!

I wouldn't even post this because part of me feels like I'm kind of bragging, and I hate that.  There are times when I almost feel guilty for how blessed I have been.  I certainly didn't do anything to deserve such blessings and yet here they are.  However, a big part of my motivation for keeping this blog is for the girls to someday read.  How could I  not blog about their amazing daddy?  Did I mention that this car was out of our price range and in order to buy it for me, my husband (who loves cars) sold his BMW (the one that he loved very much) and is now driving my old car.  We're talking about a car with over hundred thousand miles.  One that took seven years of abuse by my three crazy kids.  When I realized what was going on, all I could do was cry.  What an amazing man I am married to.

So girls never forget that underneath that rough exterior of your Daddy's lies a heart of gold.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Day two of homecoming week was themed "The Curious Case of Bejamin Button."  Each grade was assigned a different age.  We had a baby, toddler, and business adult.  The girls had so much fun with this theme.

Homecoming Week...Team Day

One good thing about being in a school that is k-12 is that the little kids get to celebrate homecoming week right along with the high schoolers.  This week is homecoming week and every day is a dress up day.  Today was wear your favorite team shirt day.  Being in El Paso, there was very little to choose from.  It was basically Cowboys or Cowboys.  Daddy wasn't having that.  Luckily, the girls already had the perfect shirts hanging in their closets.

Love my little Bears!

Dinner Conversations

Typically, while I cook dinner, Abby and Macey play in their rooms or finish homework, and Shelby sits at the kitchen table and talks to me.  In fact, she talks so much that I regularly have to remind her to take a breath.  All three of my girls are big talkers when given the chance, but while I'm cooking dinner seems to be Shelby's time.  A couple nights ago, She was rattling on like she does and somehow ended up talking about Christmas.  This then led to the Christmas wish list she has already started composing in her head.

Her words as best I can remember.

"Momma, for Christmas this year I want a huge Barbie doll house.  It HAS to have an elligator (elevator) on the side, and I want a DS.  You get me the cheaper one cause I'm pretty sure Santa is rich."

First Grade Adventures with Shelby

Every week, Shelby's teacher has a couple "Shelby" stories for me.  If you know my spunky six year old then this doesn't come as a surprise.  Every time I hear her teacher say "I just have to tell you this funny thing Shelby said or did" I cringe inside.  There is just no telling what that child might say, and occasionally, I would rather not know.  Bret and I always say it's like there is no filter in her brain.  If she is thinking it, she will say it.  You won't meet a more honest person! Fortunately, her teacher seems to really enjoy Shelby which makes life a lot easier for all of us.  Today, her teacher came up to me and said "You know, I have decided to write a book, and I am going to call it 'First Grade Adventures with Shelby'."

Naptime

Now that school is back in session, Friday naptime (at least for the two youngest) has also come back.   The girls get out at noon on Fridays, and their little legs are just dragging as they make that walk to the car.  I know as they adjust to the longer days, this will change.  Right now, I am loving it!  Friday afternoons have become my new favorite time.  All my little chicks are snuggled up at home where they belong, and for once they are being quiet!

The boys decided she'd had enough rest.

The Men in Their Lives

I recently read an article about what an important role a daddy plays in his little girls life and how important that relationship is.  It wasn't anything I hadn't heard before, and I grew up with an amazing dad so I know first hand the impact he made.  However, it was a reminder to me of just how lucky my girls are to have such a wonderful daddy, especially in this day and age.   That led me to thinking about the other important men in their lives.  So many kids don't even have a dad around and my girls have three wonderful men in their lives.  Their daddy teaches them responsibility and the meaning of unconditional love.  Papa spoils them rotten and makes them feel like the most important girls in the world.  Uncle Davie lets them be silly and makes them feel adored.  My girls are richly blessed!

Our "Daddy"
(Bret teases me about still saying Daddy.  I told him, he won't think it's so funny when it's his girls are  doing it!)
