Daddy's Christmas Party

I am a  little behind in posting about all our Christmas fun, but when you have two birthday, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in a period of five days, you get a little behind!  We had lots of fun at Bret's office Christmas party.  The girls got to see Santa and listen to Santa read them a story.  They also had a great time out on the dance floor.  It's so much fun watching them be carefree.  I wish they could always be this way!

So excited to see Santa!

Listening to "The Night Before Christmas."

I love this picture of Macey dancing with her Daddy.

Too much dancing for one night.  One girl was crying and the other was passed out.

Happy Birthday Daddy

The girls and I love celebrating Bret's birthday.  He is our hero and protector.  It melts my heart every time I see the way the girls run to him when he gets home or giggle with him when he teases them.  I have never known a man (except maybe my own dad) whose heart was so full of love for his children.  We love you Bret and are so blessed to have you!

Shelby's Christmas Program

Shelby had her Christmas program tonight at school.  She was the star that hung over the stable where Jesus was born. She was thrilled about doing it because she loves being on stage in front of people.  That child doesn't know a thing about stage fright.  She was also excited about Nani, Papa, Auntie Lizzy, and Mimi being there to cheer her on!  Her teacher told me that she is the best singer in the class so they decided to put the microphone right in front of her.  I think at this point the "best singer" means "only kid who will sing really loud," but I'll take the compliment!  I never told Bret about this, and when the kids walked on stage, Bret leaned over and said something to the effect of "I wonder if it was a good idea putting a microphone right in front of her."  Just a few seconds later, exactly what he was worried about happened.  She looked around the quiet room, saw that the teachers were busy getting everyone situated, and leaned into the microphone and said very fast "Hello everyone, my name is Shelby (I had to ask her later what it was that she said)."  Then she giggled behind her hands and did it again!  Yes, that is my Shelby!

And one funny story because I don't want to forget.  Shelby's teacher was telling me that she got in a disagreement with a couple girls in her class because they were trying to tell her that Santa wasn't real.  Mrs. Barbara said that Shelby wasn't budging on the idea that he was in fact real, and as the other girls became more and more upset about her not listening to them, she put her hands up and told them "I think you need to go home and talk to your moms about this."   Sometimes I am grateful for her strong will!  I was not prepared to be dealing with kids in kindergarten already not believing!

Hotel Bethlehem

Abby and Macey's Christmas program this year was called Hotel Bethlehem.  It was the story of Jesus's birth with a little modern flair.  I loved it!  It all centered around the "hotel" where Joseph and Mary ended up having baby Jesus.  Abby was finally old enough to try out for a part, and she got the part of the maid who cleaned the hotel.  She also had a singing solo.  She did great!  Macey was in the choir, and she also did an amazing job.  She never missed a beat.  I'm so proud of my little Bible characters.

My sweet Bible characters and Shelby looking way too grown up!

My girls made me so proud.  They have such different personalities on stage.  I love watching them grow and change each year.  Abby got so excited about her part and large cheering section (their wasn't a family member that was going to miss it!) that she had a hard time remembering what she was doing.   As you can see her eyes were only for us!  I love it.  Macey on the other hand never missed a beat (singing or motions), but she got stage fright and didn't smile till the very end.

Do you think someone feels like a celebrity?

My favorite time of the year!

The weekend after Thanksgiving, we got out all our Christmas decorations.  It was earlier than usual for us.  This is because Daddy Scrooge is in a much better mood this Christmas season, and pulled everything out without even being asked.   We are all very thankful for this. :)  Actually, I am so thankful for my wonderful hubby (even if he does get a little grumpy over the holidays).  He is the most amazing husband and father!

Sandy

Our beloved Sandy died this week.  We are devastated!  Since I keep this blog for the girls I am going to share some of our favorite things about Sandy because one day they will enjoy remembering.  Some of you may wonder why I would spend so much time writing about a dog.  To us, though, she was never just a dog.  She was a part of the family.

I remember when we got Sandy, almost 12 years ago.  She was around 2 at the time ( a guess because she was a stray).  Bret and I were in Stamford, a tiny dirt town were he grew up.  He was playing basketball at a park with a friend, and I was sitting on a park bench watching him.  It was then that I noticed this group of boys chasing a little white dog.  She wouldn't let anyone get near her, and upon closer inspection, I wasn't sure who would want to.  She was filthy, covered in fleas and ticks, and her eyes were matted closed.   However, after watching these kids making a game out of chasing her, I was starting to feel really bad for the dog.  I guess she sensed it because that was the moment she decided to jump into my lap and hide her face under my arm.  Bret looked at me and said "we are not putting that dog in our car!"  I think you know who won that argument.  :)

So Sandy came home with Bret and I on the pretense that we would find her a home. We were newly married, and after a trip to the groomers and several trips to the vet to get her back in shape, we were in love.  Sandy became our first baby.  She was sweet, affectionate, and (despite her size) very courageous.  We have more than one funny story of Bret flying out of bed and running for his pistol because Sandy was barking ferociously at the end of our bed trying to protect us from whatever noise she heard.   She physically attacked the vacuum cleaner every time I used it, and would come close to breaking her teeth on the car window trying to bite trucks that drove past us on the road.  The only time she was afraid was when it thundered, and then her only comfort was to be touching someone in the family.

She had her world rocked each time we brought  another baby home from the hospital, but she always adapted well and learned to love them.  They became her napping buddies when they were small and her playmates as they grew older.  One of her favorite things to do was to ride in the car, especially if we were picking the girls up from school.  She would search all the kids till she found hers and you always knew when that was because she would let out a little yelp.  The day we brought Huck home, she was not nearly as pleased, but she even learned to love him!  At least once a day, she would stopped being queen bee of the Moon family pets, and play with him. He loved her, and it was so funny to watch a 15 pound dog and a 60 pound Boxer wrestle. Her best move was to swing her body around and hit him with her butt, knocking him off his feet. Even when he got way to big for this to work, she would still try it.

When she got sleepy, she loved being rocked, and would sleep right up against me at night, even under the covers if it was cold enough.  She greeted us every morning by crawling up to our pillows and laying her head on our face or neck to get us to rub the inside of her ears.  Anytime we got home, no matter how short our time away, she was at the door barking and yelping to greet us.

She was spoiled rotten but brought our family so much joy and companionship!  We miss her terribly.
